Tools: NetTracker

Analyzing how visitors use your site

BSDIS uses NetTracker to provide access to a wealth of information about how your site is used. NetTracker analyzes web server logs every month and offers more than 20 default reports, as well as customizable reports. Reports describe statistics such as how many visitors you've had, what site referred them to your site, what search terms were used to find you, your most popular content, and much more.

FAQ

How do I access these NetTracker reports for my site?
Browse to http://nettracker.bsd.uchicago.edu/YOURSITENAME where YOURSITENAME is the first part of your website address (e.g. the site name for http://example.bsd.uchicago.edu is example). You will be taken to a secure site where you enter your BSD user ID and password.
Who can see my report?
Only the people who can edit the website.
How often are the reports updated? Why don't I see anything for my site?
Reports are updated on the first of every month. Any set of reports needs at least one full month of data before reports have enough information to be useful, so new siteowners may need to wait until that time to see reports for the first time.
Can I have a hit counter on my site?
Hit counters are not useful in understanding the usage of your site. BSDIS offers no off-the-shelf counter programs and instead encourages the use of the NetTracker software.
I have a question about my reports that is not answered by this FAQ. What do I do?
You can email BSD Web Services.
